About Madeline Carol

Born in 1944 to an Air Force family in Douglas Arizona; Madeline traveled with her family and lived in Alaska and Europe. In the 1950s, her family settled in Charleston, South Carolina. She feels that Charleston and her people portray the warmth, elegance, and charm that reminds her of England, which is where she studied art.

Well-known artists of the United States and England have influenced Madeline’s personal style. Her formal art study includes a degree in Fine Arts from Charleston Southern University and additional study at the College of Charleston.

She also studied with distinguished artist Ray Goodbred of the Art Students League of New York.

The artistic sharing of her mother Freda Hanna who is a well-known artist of the Lowcountry has further enhanced Madeline’s formal training.

In 1979, Madeline began teaching art at Trident Technical College of Charleston in the Graphics Department. She then pursued a career in Art as a Department of Navy illustrator at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Madeline’s repertoire of artistic skills gained for her the civilian title position of “Charleston Naval Shipyard Illustrator.” She was the first woman to achieve this position since it was established two decades earlier. Madeline enjoys the fact that famous artist Norman Rockwell was also a Navy Yard Artist at Charleston’s Naval shipyard in 1918.

Madeline Carol’s art is available in art galleries throughout the United States and Europe.

As a gallery owner, illustrator, and art instructor, Madeline has achieved par excellence in the art world.
