Goodbye Old Friends
The serene grandeur of our lowcountry marshlands and waterways provides inspiration for our souls, a piece of heaven here on earth. “Goodbye Old Friends” seems to evoke memories and the possibility of the living Spirit of our Heavenly Father in our harbor. The beauty of the lowcountry seems to have been kissed by the face of God.
As we take in the Carolina sunset, memories of the beautiful bridges abound. For many years, the Cooper River Bridges have graced the Charleston Harbor and provided a visual delight.
The Cooper River Bridges connect Mt. Pleasant and Charleston. The John P. Grace Memorial Bridge, the older of the bridges, opened on August 8, 1929. It was constructed after only 14 months and was the longest span of its type in the world. The newer Silas N. Pearman Bridge opened on August 29, 1966.
However, we will soon bid goodbye to our old friends as a new bridge will replace the Cooper River Bridges.
